Coming off of spring break, the Temple City Rams lost to the tennis powerhouse San Marino Titans 3-15 on Tuesday.
The Titans, a perennial tennis power, are coming off a run to the Division 1 CIF Finals. The Rams played well against the staunch opponents. After a slow start likely due to no matches in 10 days, the doubles teams started to play better. The number one team of Spencer Chen and Regis Lee won two sets. Jason Chen and Justin Lee paired up for the other win. Many of the doubles sets were closer than in years past.
The singles players struggled against the highly touted San Marino stars that are ranked in the top 100 in all of Southern California. Freshmen Ryan Lee narrowly lost his final set 5-7.
Although it was a decisive loss, the Rams can take pride in the improvements. In 2016, the Rams lost to the Titans twice by scores of 1-17 and 0-18. The loss drops the Rams to 6-3 overall, 1-1 in league. They will face La Canada on Thursday and will have the Titans again at home on Tuesday.
