Girls Junior Varsity Tennis, Girls Varsity Tennis · Rams Tennis In CIF Finals!

A wild and historic girls tennis season has landed the Temple City Rams in the CIF Finals for the first time in school history. The Rams barreled their way to the championship match with a convincing 15-3 victory over a very good Orcutt Academy Spartans team.

The school was filled with anticipation throughout the day as the band and cheer squad sent the Rams off in spirited fashion at a lunch time rally. As the girls set down their roses and sashes presented by ASB, they knew it was time to focus.

All of the sets started off close in the first round as the Rams shook off some nervous jitters. Katherine Wu and Morgan Leong both scored decisive wins in singles, 6-2 and 6-0. Doubles teams of Doris Chen and Michelle Le along with Allison Young and Kaitlyn Tran nabbed hard fought first round wins, 6-4 and 6-2.

On the north tennis courts, Allison Tam felt that she won 6-2, but there was a discrepancy with the score and the set had to be restarted with a score of 4-1. Though it was a very tough, Allison was resilient and persevered to still take the set 6-2 in the end, to the thunderous applause of the Rams crowd. The gutsy victory by Tam staked the Rams to a 5-1 lead after one round.

The Rams never looked back. Another singles sweep in the second round paired with a 6-4 win from Chen and Le put the Rams score at nine, needing only one more set to clinch a spot in the finals. Meanwhile, Jessie Zheng and Kayla Truong were battling against the Spatans’ number one doubles team, up 5-4. After a couple of Rams errors tied the set at 5-5, Zheng and Truong elevated their play to win 7-5 and earn the team the victory and a spot in the CIF Finals!

After two rounds, the Rams had already clinched the overall victory. Eileen Lee earned a singles win 6-2 and the doubles team of Christy Tan and Emily Wong triumphed 6-4 to go with three other third round wins and a 15-3 final score.

“It is an exciting win for us and for the school,” said Rams coach Nate Slaymaker. “The girls had one of their best matches of the year and are excited to continue the momentum to the championship.”

The Rams hope that all of their fans will make the trip to watch them in this momentous CIF Finals match. Details are below.
